Defined: Who God Says You Are

June 8 - August 3
Thursdays 5:15-6:30
Dinner Included
Rising 5th and 6th grade boys and girls are invited to participate in this 8-week Bible study guiding kids to find their identity in Christ, based on selected passages from Ephesians. This Bible study is a great for beginners and early readers.
“Who am I?” is a question that many kids are being challenged to answer. To answer this question, we must first ask “Who does God say I am?” Beginning in Genesis, the Bible tells us that we are each made in God’s image, but that image has become distorted by sin. The only way to restore what was broken is through a relationship with Jesus. Through Defined: Who God Says I Am, kids will discover who God created them to be and what is true about their identity because of their relationship with Jesus. Please register for these small groups so that we will know how many study books to order.

Fire and Faithfulness

June 22-August 3
Thursdays 5:15-6:30
We live in a world that doesn’t care what God wants. Sure, they may not say it that way, but the messages that parade across social media declare that God’s way just isn’t worth it. But as Christians, we’re committed to following Jesus in every aspect of our lives. Is it possible to live—or maybe even thrive—as a believer in our world today?

Pastor Sarah is leading our 7th-9th grade girls in this four-session series with Sadie Robertson Huff. Discover the lost art of faithfulness in the face of a world that wants nothing to do with God. Trek through the story of four young Israelites who, when ripped from their homes, faced a choice: remain faithful followers in a foreign land, or bow before an empire that hated God. Register to let us know that you will be attending.

Fire and Faithfulness

Fletcher Poulk will be leading a small group for rising 7th and 9th grade boys on Thursdays from 5:15-6:30 pm during June 22-August 3. Register to let us know that you will be attending.

Project MHC: June 11-15, 2023

Project MHC is a mission experience that is designed to be a mission trip experience without leaving our county. We will only be working a few short miles away from the church, but for many of our youth, they will be stepping into a world entirely different from their own. This is designed to be an opportunity for youth to grow in their faith while serving as the hands and feet of Jesus. Project MHC is designed to be an overnight experience so youth participating are required to spend the night and participate in all daytime activities.

Youth who have completed grades 5-11 (Rising 6th-12th graders)
*Former participants in 12th grade and up are welcome to apply as counselors!

CONFIRMATION

As young people begin to explore faith, we here at First Methodist Church want to offer a path of support and encouragement, teaching and practicing faith, all leading to a personal decision to entrust their life to Jesus and begin to walk as his disciple day by day.

Confirmation has classically been a group process for youth 10-14 years of age. We are embracing a new path – fully individualized as a youth is ready and genuinely interested in exploring faith. Each youth will be paired with an adult mentor from our congregation who will meet regularly to listen and talk over questions of faith. Teaching sessions will be provided by the pastors both in print and by video. Activities of worship, service, and discipleship will be offered. Parent conversations will be integrated into the process.

This is a year-round opportunity. It begins and ends according to the youth’s interest, participation, and decision. When they are ready, baptism (if needed) and profession of faith will be scheduled in a worship service.

Interested in knowing more so you can share with your son or daughter and gauge their interest? Contact, Pastor Powell or Pastor Sarah at church (252-726-7102).

Carry the Light of Christ

An acolyte is a helper or attendant who bears the flame that lights the candles at the opening of the service and extinguishes them at the service's conclusion. We are searching for Acolytes grades 4th and up (needs to be able to carry the candle, light candles, and hold/serve communion trays if Communion Sunday) to help the Pastors on Sunday mornings in the traditional 8:30 or 11:00 services. We need 2 people per service on Communion Sundays and 1 server on the other Sundays (can have 2 but only 1 needed). This is a great opportunity to serve in the church. Thank you all for considering this opportunity feel free to share with anyone of age that may be interested. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact Dana Starling at dana@starlingmarine.com.

BE

Be – We believe that every person is made in the image of God! All kids and youth are welcome here at First Methodist! Please feel free to invite friends and neighbors! This is a place for your kids and youth to be.

BELONG

Belong – Sometimes before we are ready to hear the gospel, we need to find a community and loves us and accepts us for who we are. Jesus met people where they were and spoke love into their lives before revealing who he truly was. This is a family! We eat as a family. We play as a family. We learn as a family. This is a place for your kids and youth to belong.

BELIEVE

Believe – While we schedule many fun activities throughout the year, our main purpose is to help kids and youth grow in their faith. We want everyone who comes through our doors to hear about the love of Christ and the salvation he has to offer. Our main goal is to point toward the cross and guide kids and youth to accept Jesus as their savior and friend. This is where your kids and youth can learn what it means to believe.

BECOME

Become – As Methodist Christians, we believe that God continues to work in our lives after we accept the redeeming love of Jesus. We are continually becoming closer to Jesus as we seek to follow him. We offer mission opportunities for all ages, age appropriate Bible studies, and time for fellowship all as a way to help kids and youth walk down the path of discipleship, always becoming more Christ-like. This is a place your kids and youth can become disciples.
